MY SOUVENIR COLLECTION

MY SOUVENIR COLLECTION

My Souvenir Collection (2025) juxtaposes a Weimar souvenir of Goethe and Schiller with a $2 Hong Kong Dollar, exploring the meaning of souvenirs beyond commodification. Without personal memory, these objects become narrow representations of place or identity. The collection challenges this by reproducing each piece as a copy of the previous, with details progressively fading. Over time, Goethe, Schiller, or the Bauhinia flower of Hong Kong erode into abstract forms. Casting with tin resonates with Zinngießen, a New Year tradition in Germany to predict the future. This transformation reflects the loss inherent in replication while revealing individuality within decay.
